The Love Dare, by Stephen and Alex Kendrick
July 5th, 2009Whether Your Marriage is Rock Solid, or Not So Rock Solid, Check Out Love Dare by Stephen and Alex Kendrick
Love Dare by Stephen and Alex Kendrick is the book that is used in the movie Fireproof to help the main characters restore their marriage. Even though (I’m a newly wed, remember?) I think my marriage is great, as I was watching the movie, at the back of my mind, I was thinking how cool it would be to get a copy of the book and try out the Love Dare challenges myself. So, that’s where I’m at–book in hand, ready to start day one of this 40-day journey.
Each day’s dare is divided into three parts. First, there is a short discussion of the character trait to work on that day. This is followed by the “dare.” Finally, there is space to journal about how the dare went, what you did, and how your spouse responded. The first day’s dare is about learning to demonstrate patience. The task is to avoid saying anything negative to your spouse for the entire day. I am ready to go!
In addition to the dares, the book also has a nice appendix covering topics such as effective prayer, questions to ask your spouse, and scripture to proclaim for your life. Since I am only on day one, and this is not the type of book that you read in one sitting, you will be hearing more from me about my journey with this book in approximately 40 days. Of course, I may report on my progress sooner than that. One final note–I love books that give the reader specific tasks like this. Like the dare concerning patience, the book itself requires patience, because I am very tempted to read ahead. But, I won’t. I promise.
